ANITA K. MITCHELL was born in Medina, Ohio, studied at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and moved to Florida in 1964, where she started out in Cocoa Beach and the Kennedy Space Center. From her first marriage, she has been blessed with three beautiful children—Kimberly (a West Palm Beach City Commissioner), Paul (an executive and partner with Southern Strategy in Tallahassee), and Mary Beth (Muffy, head of the bond desk for Titus Donnally).
While working for the Walt Disney Company in Orlando, Florida, Anita met and married Aviator and Astronaut Edgar Mitchell, 6th man to walk on the moon. After a move to Atherton, California in 1972 the Mitchell family moved to Palm Beach in 1974, and Anita ran for the Florida House in 1978.
The following year, in 1979, she opened Anita Mitchell Associates, a public relations, advertising, and government relations firm. AMA grew into The Mitchell Group, specializing in government and corporate relations, strategy and positioning, branding, and media management. “We have been blessed to represent some of the top corporations in Florida, representing them in counties throughout the state, Tallahassee, and Washington, DC.”
In November 2013, Mrs. Mitchell was elected Chairman of The Republican Party of Palm Beach County.
In 2017, Anita became VP External Affairs & Business Development at Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, now Margaritaville at Sea, and she remains the owner/president of the Mitchell Group. She currently lives in West Palm Beach, Florida, with her husband Noel, their cat Pickles, and poodle, Daisy.
