The Song - God’s Not Through with You

I met Anita Mitchell 14 years ago and it has been a wonderful friendship full of many atypical adventures including this incredible collaboration with Anita and her first book, “You Don’t Look Like an Astronaut’s Wife” and the song I wrote for her book, “God’s Not Through with You” to share Anita’s life story in text and music. Anita with her usual vigor for life and with great excitement, called me a few years ago and said, “we need to have lunch. I am writing a memoir and I would like you to write a song to go with the book.” Of course, anyone who knows me, I am always up for the task to help others, especially dear friends.  The immediate answer was yes!  Let’s talk about it over lunch!  I asked Anita at lunch what she wanted the song to be about.  She said, “I think it should be about space and space exploration.”  I quickly replied, “that is Edgar Mitchell’s story not yours.  That is only part of your life’s grand and spiritual journey.”  I then asked the question, “What is the overarching message you would like your readers to take away from the book and what would you like them to remember upon reading it?.”  Anita got quiet, paused, and then quickly replied,

“I would like everyone to remember, it’s not what happens to ya, it’s how you react.  And when things get tough, always remember, God’s not through with you yet.”

That’s all I needed to hear, and instantly knew from those few words, I could create an entire song and share Anita’s message musically.  The quickest song interview I have ever done! People ask, how long did it take you to write the song.  I always reply, not long once I put pen to paper, but 14 years of knowing Anita.  I knew her so well and her message after many lunches of listening intently, and so many adventures together that the words came flowing in abundance.

I am so elated Anita asked me to be a part of her journey and so excited for the world to hear her story, “You Don’t Look Like an Astronaut’s Wife and now in song, “God’s Not Through with You Yet.”
