Leadership: The Value of Laughter

Laughter can be one of the most underrated tools in leadership, not because leaders need to keep things light all the time, but because shared laughter has a way of easing tension and helping people reconnect.

Every workplace has moments that feel heavy, whether it is a difficult deadline, a tough conversation, a mistake that needs to be corrected, or a season of change that has everyone on edge. In those moments, the energy of a leader matters. A leader who can bring appropriate humor into the room can help people breathe again and think more clearly.

The key is using humor with intention. When people feel safe enough to laugh together, they often feel safer speaking honestly and solving problems. Laughter does not replace accountability or strong decision-making. It can support the environment those things depend on.

Used well, humor helps teams stay connected and human, even under pressure.
